Brakepoint services transmission fluid on most automatic and manual transmissions and diagnoses shifting concerns before they turn into major repairs. Hard shifts, slipping, delayed engagement, and new noises all deserve attention — small issues caught early are usually fixable; the same issues ignored for a year often aren't.
We do not replace transmissions in-house for every situation, but we do diagnose accurately and explain what your vehicle actually needs. If a major repair is required, you'll know what it involves before any decision is made.
Warning signs to watch for
- Hard or jerky shifts between gears
- Slipping — engine revs up without matching speed
- Delayed engagement when shifting into drive or reverse
- Grinding or whining when in gear
- Burnt smell from the engine bay
- Transmission warning light
- Fluid that looks dark or smells burnt
- Leaks under the vehicle
What Brakepoint checks
- Transmission fluid level and condition
- Scan for transmission control module codes
- Road test to evaluate shift quality
- Inspection for external leaks
- Cooler lines and pan condition
- Mounts and linkage
- Manufacturer service intervals against vehicle history
Why fluid condition matters
Transmission fluid lubricates, cools, and applies hydraulic pressure to clutch packs inside the transmission. As it ages, it loses friction characteristics and breaks down. Dirty fluid wears parts faster, and parts wear out, contaminate the fluid, and accelerate failure. Clean fluid at the right interval is cheap insurance.
Diagnosing shifting concerns
Not every shifting concern is a failed transmission. Sometimes it's a sensor, a wiring issue, low fluid, a worn engine mount that lets the engine move under load, or a software update. We diagnose before we recommend, because the cost difference between possibilities is enormous.
If your transmission is doing something new, don't wait it out. Call Brakepoint and we'll diagnose the issue before it gets bigger.
